History

The company was founded on 14 May 1998 after the Pakistan Government decided to change the energy sector to provide better services to the public. Water is the primary source for generating energy (hydroelectric power).

Among the ten electricity providers in Pakistan, Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) is the largest. It services an area of 105505 square kilometers and has 8381 power transformers (293 of which are 66 kV and 8088 MVA). The length of 132 kV and 66 kV transmission lines are 3929 and 872, respectively.

The high-tension and low-tension lines are spread over 76057 and 40007 kilometers, respectively. This includes 169938 distributed transformers and 1392 feeders. The average length of a feeder line is 54.64 kilometers.

In 2001, the distribution network consisted of seventy-one 132 kV and thirty-four 66 kV substations. By 2013-14, sixty-eight 132 kV and twenty-seven 66 kV substations were operational.

MEPCO is the only company to have inaugurated two advanced and crewless grid stations. The first crewless 66 kV Bukhashan Khan grid station was established last year, and the two crewless 132 kV grid station was inaugurated at Soraj Miani.
